Background of the Study

Work-from-home (WFH) policies have gained prominence globally, particularly after the COVID-19 pandemic. These policies allow employees to perform their tasks remotely, often using digital communication tools. WFH policies can enhance job satisfaction by providing flexibility, reducing commuting time, and promoting a better work-life balance (Adebayo & Yusuf, 2023). However, they also present challenges such as reduced social interaction, increased distractions, and difficulty in separating work from personal life.

In Sokoto State, organizations in various sectors have adopted WFH policies, especially for administrative, IT, and academic professionals. While some employees appreciate the flexibility, others experience challenges such as lack of clear boundaries between work and home life, technology-related stress, and concerns over job security. Studies suggest that WFH arrangements can either improve or reduce job satisfaction depending on how they are implemented (Olawale & Musa, 2024).

This study aims to investigate the impact of WFH policies on job satisfaction among employees in Sokoto State. By examining the benefits and drawbacks of remote work, the study will provide insights into how organizations can optimize WFH policies to enhance employee satisfaction and productivity.

Statement of the Problem

While WFH policies offer advantages such as flexibility and convenience, they also introduce challenges that can affect job satisfaction. Some employees struggle with feelings of isolation, lack of motivation, and difficulty maintaining productivity due to distractions at home. Others may experience stress due to increased workload expectations and the need for constant digital availability.

Despite the growing adoption of WFH policies in Sokoto State, there is limited research on their impact on employee job satisfaction. If not properly structured, WFH arrangements may lead to decreased motivation, lower engagement, and reduced job performance. This study seeks to assess how WFH policies affect job satisfaction, identify key challenges, and provide recommendations for improvement.

Objectives of the Study

1. To examine the relationship between WFH policies and job satisfaction among employees in Sokoto State.

2. To identify the key benefits and challenges associated with WFH arrangements.

3. To recommend strategies for improving WFH policies to enhance job satisfaction.

Research Questions

1. How do WFH policies affect job satisfaction among employees in Sokoto State?

2. What are the key advantages and challenges of WFH arrangements?

3. What strategies can be implemented to improve WFH policies for better job satisfaction?

Research Hypotheses

1. Effective WFH policies significantly improve job satisfaction among employees.

2. Employees who work from home experience higher job satisfaction compared to those working on-site.

3. Poorly implemented WFH policies lead to reduced job satisfaction and increased work-related stress.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

The study will focus on employees in various industries in Sokoto State who have experienced WFH arrangements. Limitations may include differences in individual work preferences and organizational variations in WFH policy implementation.
